Ōkārito lagoon
Ōkārito Lagoon is New Zealand’s largest unmodified wetland and home to many native and endemic bird species. This is a peaceful and tranquil place where you can quietly explore the open-tidal wetlands that are surrounded by Kā Tiritiri o te Moana/the Southern Alps and the Westland Tai Poutini National Park. While on the lagoon you will be with many bird species such as Kōtuku/White Heron, Spoonbill, and Cormorant/Shag.

Ōkārito Kayaks lead conservation work to protect this beautiful area, and are Leading Light Sustainability Award winners for these efforts.
